You can pick strawberries, cherries, lavender, blueberries, asparagus, and sunflowers in the early part of the year.  Later on there are raspberries, blackberries, pears, apples and pumpkins ripening in the fields.

“It’s always been a philosophy of our farm since its inception and the trend continues today that the flavor you get from your produce is heavily dependent on how it was picked at the farm level. For example, a gassed red tomato does not have the flavor of a tomato that is allowed to ripen naturally. A gassed tomato is picked when it is a mature green and the flavor profile carries throughout the tomato until it is consumed.

We stress from day one of the harvesting season that if a strawberry on the bush is not red, there’s no reason to pick it. For one, a berry that hasn’t fully ripened will not have the flavor the consumer is looking for. Secondly, the more red a strawberry gets, the larger the fruit size becomes. Strawberries are such a perishable commodity that they should be in a customer’s home within days of harvesting. Picking a fully red strawberry gives our customers the flavor they are after and the incentive to repurchase quicker. If a consumer doesn’t like how something tastes, they’re hesitant to buy that produce again. Spivey Farms is committed to harvesting red, ripe fruit that will have a flavor profile matched by very few in the industry.”

“The farm was established in 1947 as a cattle ranch and orange grove and eventually became a blueberry farm in 1994, when the first few acres were planted. Since then the blueberry fields have grown to several dozen acres and multiple varieties of berries. Strawberry fields were added in 2019 and we’re currently expanding into peaches and other produce. “We are a blueberry and u pick farm with over 56 acres of land to grow delicious fruits and vegetables. We started in 1996 as a commercial blueberry farm but we are now morphing into a u pick operation that will have as  many different types of fruits and vegetable imaginable.  We are building a boutique winery on the farm where our fresh fruit is transformed into wonderful tasting  wine.

We do not spray pesticides without reason and use the softest thing possible to avoid damage to our bee hives and the environment. We use Integrated Pest Management a system that consists of scouting daily to look for problems, identifying the problem, determining if it will cause significant impact on the crop and then we chose the appropriate product to control the problem. We start with products that would be allowed in Organic production and then step up to stronger stuff needed. We do not use neonics or GMO’s on our farm.”
