Braeutigam Orchards “has been in the family since 1831, but it wasn’t until 1935 that Rollin Braeutigam started raising fruit. Rollie enjoyed selling fruit to his friends so much that he raised more than he could sell! So he decided to take his beautiful ripe peaches to the St. Louis Market.
Lester, his son, and Marie, his daughter-in-law, helped him load those peaches in a truck and drove to St. Louis. Unfortunately, they did not realize that the market wanted greener fruit and they did not receive a good price. But Rollin and Lester believed tree-ripened peaches had the best and most appeal. Marie said, “Don’t worry we will just sell the peaches right on the farm!”

Blackberry season begins early August and ends mid-September! Choose blackberries that are dark black in color and look plump. If the berry is a light purple or red or is very firm, it still needs a couple weeks to fully ripen. Blackberries keep in the fridge for about a week but it’s best to use them as soon as possible.
We also have our usual fall activities including hayrides, huge playground, petting farm, Retread Hill, Johnny Combine, Straw Mountain, giant swing, giant rocking chair and more!”

Blackberries are a bramble fruit in the rose family. Considered to be one of the most complex of the classified fruits, blackberries are native in Asia, Europe, North and South America. A very large proportion of Wickham farm land has been placed in Suffolk County’s Farmland Preservation program, which means that for generations to come, this land is “forever agriculture.”

Fishkill offers a wide variety of apples for picking. In early October you will find popular classics like Golden and Red Delicious, as well as possibly lesser-known Jonagold and Idareds. Interestingly when picked, the apples are covered with a fine, pale substance. This is Kaolin Clay and it is there to help protect the fruit from insects. Worry not – it is nontoxic and cleans off easily.
The Pick-Your-Own season kicks off in early June with strawberries and ever-so-sweet sugar snap peas. July brings sweet and sour cherries as well as our certified organic raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. “Our goal for Mackintosh Fruit Farm was to find fruit varieties that have amazing flavor and texture and grow them on dwarf trees that can be picked easily from the ground. We combined our favorite varieties with size controlling rootstocks. This is done by grafting selected varieties on a root system that will allow us to plant a tree that is smaller when mature, easier to pick, and is known for producing larger tastier fruit.”

In the Fall, Many colors of apples and pumpkins mark the farm. In 2015 we introduced our u-pick Apple orchard to a great success. We have our yearly corn maze that opens in September, included in it a game telling more about an activity or a item on the farm. The Train and Hayride runs all day on their routes around the farm either to the apples or to the animals.”

“Tucked into the foothills of the north Georgia countryside, Jaemor Farms was established on family values and hard work that has been passed down for six generations in the Echols family. In 2002, we began to diversify the crops grown on the farm to beyond just peaches and apples.
Now our customers can enjoy homegrown strawberries, blackberries, muscadines, scuppernongs, Concord grapes, watermelon, squash, tomatoes, zucchini, pumpkins and more during our harvest season. In 2006, we opened our first corn maze and began to participate in the state’s agritourism industry. One of the most cultivated and well-known crops throughout written history, the apple is still a firm favorite. During apple season Jaemor Farms specializes in east coast apples. While we grow Ginger Gold and Arkansas Black apples at the farm and harvest in late September/Early October, due to our working relationships with other farms we are able to bring in fresh Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Winesap, Mutsu, Red Rome, among other varieties each fall when in season.
