Valley View Acres
4005 Valley View Rd, Middletown, MD 21769
What could be lovelier than a sunflower festival? Get on down to Valley View Acres in Middletown during sunflower season with all the family for a fabulous day out.
“Valley View Acres was originally Haines Brothers Farm founded in 1990 as a dairy farm. Later the cows were sold and the farm was converted solely to a crop farm. Over the years the farm has seen many changes including the addition of a bagged ice business: Valley View Ice, which services many local businesses and members of the community.
Valley View Acres started as a fun idea tossed around in a casual conversation until one day it became a reality. In 2018, we planted a field of sunflowers as a “trial run.” The response from the community was very encouraging. And so the concept of a multiple weekend Sunflower Festival was born.
We’re passionate about agriculture and sharing it with everyone who wants to come enjoy some good ole fashioned fun. We hope our festivals become an annual tradition for all those who attend.”

“Welcome to The Lone Oak Sunflower Farm. The farm is owned and operated by Matt and April Bobby.

April has always had a dream of having a huge sunflower garden.
They purchased needed farm equipment, and together began working up the land. They planted an estimated 1/2 million black oil sunflower seeds. They only went with 1 flower for this first time planting, and hope to expand into several different types of flowers next year.
Despite a few hurdles, the sunflowers seem to be growing quite well. The two decided they will open their farm to the public when the flowers start to bloom, estimated time to be July or August.
They are allowing visitors to cut their own sunflowers as well as ready cut sunflowers for those who do not wish to cut their own.”

Buttonwood Farm
473 Shetucket Turnpike, Griswold, CT 06351
Buttonwood Farm “began as a dairy farm in 1975, using an old sawmill to mill lumber from timber grown on our land. Since that time, the farm has been used to produce feed for cattle and milk for the wholesale market, as well as merchandising cattle.
As our family has grown, the farm has become more diverse. A new sawmill has replaced the old one, we began growing hay and silage for sale, and began raising and marketing dairy and beef cattle.
October 1997 marked a new chapter in our farm history. We felled trees for logs, milled logs for lumber, and less than a year later, the new Buttonwood Farm Ice Cream stand was built.
With our history of making things from scratch, it seemed only natural that our ice cream would follow suit. We researched old recipes, purchased equipment, and began with only premium ingredients. Through practice, we have learned to make the best ice cream available anywhere.”
Each year we plant over 14 acres of sunflowers and harvest approximately 300,000 blooms for your viewing pleasure and to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut, a non-profit organization dedicated to granting wishes to children with critical illnesses.
Sunflowers are available while supplies last. We offer cut your sunflowers with a $2 per flower donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut. 100% of proceeds of our sunflower sales are given directly to Make-A-Wish, as well as proceeds from our t-shirt sales, which feature a unique sunflower design each season.
Over the past 14 seasons growing sunflowers we have been able to donate over one million dollars to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, thanks to the generosity of our visitors.”

McAdams Farm
1100 Efland – Cedar Grove Rd, Efland, NC 27243
At McAdams Farm, with a “rich tradition of farming, the fourth and fifth generations to work the land are still going strong in Efland, North Carolina. Howard Jr. occupies his time with the strawberries and fresh vegetables, preparing the land and tending to these crops. His wife Karen is a retired agricultural extension agent for Orange County. She now helps on the farm with the beef cattle and vegetables. Daughters Callie and Elizabeth both help out on the farm when they are home, carrying on the legacy of farming that is over 130 years strong. The farm also relies on a terrific team of year round and seasonal employees who help plant, care for, harvest, and sell the crops we grow.
We raise a wide range of spring, summer, and fall vegetable and fruit crops that are sold at the farm stand and at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. We also raise Angus cattle and Katahdin sheep. Check out the pictures of what we grow to see more on this!
One constant is that we like to try new varieties to find the most flavorful vegetables and fruits, and longest lasting cut flowers. The taste and reliability of our wide selection of vegetables and fruits, and the color and beauty of our flowers are important to us. We make our farming decisions based on an intention to continue farming for many years to come.”
In the spring, there are snapdragons, larkspur, delphiniums, dianthus, and more. The bouquets during this time of year are extra long-lasting and come in around the same time as our strawberries and cool season vegetables.
In the warmer months, the flowers are warm and vibrant colors. We have a multitude of sunflowers; the most showy is the heirloom variety we call “Granddaddy Jones.” It was grown by Karen’s grandfather, Wesley Jones, in Pinnacle, NC. The hot days also mean every color of zinnia from red to green to purple is in bloom. Celosia, yarrow, and ageratum are just a few of the smaller bits of color we add to our bouquets.

McLaurin Farms
5601 N Church St Suite 1, Greensboro, NC 27455
At McLaurin Farms, “we believe in the experience a real farm atmosphere adds to your life. It takes you back to a simpler time. We’ve created (and continue to create) family experiences that you won’t find anywhere else. Kids get to be kids in a safe environment, and families get opportunities to take priceless photos like we all used to do around holidays and yearly gatherings. Unbounded play and exploration is something we miss when we live in urban areas, so our goal at McLaurin Farms is to take you back to a relaxed pace, a happy time, a few hours where you can leave the noise of life behind you and just be a family.
We made a decision in 1991 to turn the farm that’s been in our family for generations into a place for others. We don’t grow cattle or vegetables any longer; we grow memories and magic—both in short supply these days. Enjoy your time here, come back often, and let us know if there’s anything you’d like to see us create to add to the experience!
Sunflowers are the happiest, most joyful flowers we know, so we’ve decided to create a fun festival featuring this summer photo-worthy flower. And children love them! Families come out for the perfect sunny photos around the farm in various photo setups featuring rows of sunflowers. Your family can have their photographer create a memory-filled, professional photo session for you to enjoy for years to come.** There is also plenty of other fun for everyone during this festival. Dress up in your summer clothes with floppy hats and enjoy!”
