Flanagan Farm is located in an area commonly known as Pungo Ridge. Pungo Ridge is home to some of the most prime soils for vegetable farming in Virginia Beach. The part where Flanagan Farm is located on is currently farmed by the fourth and fifth generations to consecutively produce crops on this farm. This farm offers lifetimes of farming science and know how.
“We grow a variety of fruits and vegetables starting in the Spring and going all the way through fall.
We pride ourselves in giving our customers the best produce directly from our fields for their tables. Freshness and quality of produce at a fair price, is the basis of everything we do. We are a sustainable farm, not only being the fourth and fifth generations to farm this ground, but in our production practices as well. We follow integrated pest management (IPM), scouting fields and determining what critters need to be controlled and how based on economic thresholds. Basically only treating for a pest when the pest is causing enough damage where it is justified to control them, whether it be through cultural, biological, or chemical controls.
Each fall we offer Family Fall activities! We’ve got wagon rides across the farm, a U-Pick pumpkin patch, a Corn Maze as well as a Straw Maze for the younger crowd.”

Mid- June – Pick-Your-Own cherries have a short picking season and are only available in mid-June to July 4th.
July through August – We have many different varieties of peaches: yellow, white and donut! We also have apricots, plums and nectarines.
Mid-September through Mid-October – As warm summer days give way to cool fall days and crisp nights, apples begin to ripen into sweet, juicy fruits with colors ranging from red, green and yellow! They taste so great picked fresh from the trees! The apple orchard at Prospect Hill is nearly 15 acres of fruit with a picnic area located by our pond. It is a scenic and quiet setting. Modern growing techniques in the orchard use dwarf trees with the newest varieties of apples available.
Dwarf trees mean that even the youngest children can pick their own apples because the trees are small. We grow more than a dozen varieties of apples including Macoun, Mutsu, Gala, Fuji, Empire, Honeycrisp, Snap Dragon, Cortland, McIntosh, Ida Red, Rome, Red and Golden Delicious, Braeburn and Granny Smith. Many people enjoy picking our Bosc pears, too. We have recently added Asian pears to our orchard. This very popular fruit usually ripens about the end of September. A visit to the pumpkin patch will challenge you to find the “perfect” pumpkin for your Halloween decoration!
Families have a great time at Prospect Hill Orchards. There are so many things to see and do. The whole family can enjoy a tractor pulled hayride that takes you around the entire orchard, stopping by the pumpkin patches and picnic area. During our festival weekends, get lost in the corn maze, try pressing cider at the old fashioned hand press and enjoy a tasty drink for your labors. Have you ever seen a pumpkin totem pole? Well, we have one!

Buttonwood Farm “began as a dairy farm in 1975, using an old sawmill to mill lumber from timber grown on our land. Since that time, the farm has been used to produce feed for cattle and milk for the wholesale market, as well as merchandising cattle.
As our family has grown, the farm has become more diverse. A new sawmill has replaced the old one, we began growing hay and silage for sale, and began raising and marketing dairy and beef cattle.
October 1997 marked a new chapter in our farm history. We felled trees for logs, milled logs for lumber, and less than a year later, the new Buttonwood Farm Ice Cream stand was built.
With our history of making things from scratch, it seemed only natural that our ice cream would follow suit. We researched old recipes, purchased equipment, and began with only premium ingredients. Through practice, we have learned to make the best ice cream available anywhere.”
