Afton Apple Orchard
14421 90th St S, Hastings, MN 55033
Blackberry season begins early August and ends mid-September! Choose blackberries that are dark black in color and look plump. If the berry is a light purple or red or is very firm, it still needs a couple weeks to fully ripen. Blackberries keep in the fridge for about a week but it’s best to use them as soon as possible.
We also have our usual fall activities including hayrides, huge playground, petting farm, Retread Hill, Johnny Combine, Straw Mountain, giant swing, giant rocking chair and more!”
Firefly Berries – Blackberry Picking Minnesota
5542 23rd St NE, Rochester, MN 55906
Firefly Berries is a family run farm that grows delicious organic fruit for you and your family to pick.
“We believe very strongly in not only providing quality fruit, but also taking care of the soil and the planet. Because of this we do not spray any chemicals anywhere on our farm. We are not certified organic, but we grow in an organic and sustainable manner– using cover crops, crop rotation, green manure and natural compost to keep the soil healthy.
Blackberries are a bramble fruit in the rose family. Considered to be one of the most complex of the classified fruits, blackberries are native in Asia, Europe, North and South America. They are most well-known for their larger size and deep purple coloring. With a sweet and tart flavor, they are great not only for fresh eating, but for cooking as well–in both sweet and savory dishes.
We currently grow two different varieties of blackberries that ripen in late August/early September, and are available as “we pick” only. When available, we sell blackberries at the Rochester Downtown Farmers Market, as well as through personal orders picked up at the farm.”
