Apple Picking in Michigan – The notion of apple picking is one that conjures up romantic images of happy families exploring picturesque orchards and picking crisp red fruit with golden leaves. Add to that fascinating and diverse surroundings of Michigan and the perfect family activity has been created, with no tech in sight!  As you explore Michigan in the autumn be sure to get out into the countryside to enjoy the delights of the traditional, bucolic orchards and take some time enjoying the most classic of fall activities – pick-your-own apples! Apple picking season in Michigan begins in mid August and continues through to the end of October.

“Wasem Fruit Farm is a family-owned and family-oriented orchard in rural southeastern Michigan, located between Ypsilanti and Milan in Washtenaw County. We take pride in our high-quality products, especially pick-your-own apples, pumpkins, and tart cherries; homemade, unpasteurized cider; and delicious fresh donuts made daily during the autumn season. We also grow a variety of other produce including red and black currants, gooseberries, plums, pears, and fall raspberries, all of which we sell in season at the Ann Arbor Farmers’ Market.

Wasem Fruit Farm has over a dozen varieties of apples available for U-Pick, and even more available that are already picked. Our U-Pick apple season typically begins shortly after Labor Day and continues through early November.”

“Starting each year in early September we open and sell these varieties as they ripen. We wait to pick them until they taste great.
Apples: Macintosh, Cortland’s, Greening’s, Gala’s, Honeycrisp, Empires, Mutsu, Ida Red, Jonagold, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Greening, Winesap, Rome, Jonathan and Criterion.”

Fruit Acres Farms Cherry U-Pick

At Fruit Acres you can pick fruit “right off the tree yourself (when available). Black Sweet Cherries, Rainier Sweet Cherries and Sour Pie Cherries are available for only 10 days from Late June to Early July. Late June to July 3 is usually a good time to come to pick Red Montmorency Sour Cherries. We are open every day until the Cherries are picked off the tree!

Our family settled this 200 acre fruit farm, located in Coloma Michigan in 1846. We are the 5th generation of Friday family farming it. We grow Black Sweet Cherries, Rainier Sweet Cherries, Sour Pie Cherries, Sweet Peaches, Nectarines, Plums, Apricots, Pears and Crisp Apples (including Honeycrisp) already picked at our farm market (when available).”

“Starting around August we have over 7 acres of a beautiful Sunflower bloom. PLUS newly added 3 acres of Wildflowers. This is a perfect time to stop by and wander through our maze, take pictures, and pick flowers to share with loved ones!

The Event Barn is located on our operational farm with over 250 acres of scenic views and this modern venue features a custom built event barn, designed with an emphasize on hosting events. Our unique, natural setting is perfect for hosting everything from small social gatherings, to large full-scale corporate events. Our land provides several areas that allow for recreational items such as: bounce houses / lawn games. A photographers dream, every season at Schell Family Farm looks like a painting, from sunflower fields, to snow covered pine trees you’re guaranteed to always find the perfect shot.
