Apple Picking Maryland – The notion of apple picking is one that conjures up romantic images of happy families exploring picturesque orchards and picking crisp red fruit with golden leaves. The perfect family activity has been created, with no tech in sight!  As you explore MD in the autumn be sure to get out into the countryside to enjoy the delights of the traditional, bucolic orchards and take some time enjoying the most classic of fall activities – pick-your-own apples! Apple picking season in the Bay Area begins in mid August and continues through to the end of October.

Lewis Orchards

Lewis Orchards are a family-owned business that “has been a treasured part of Montgomery County, Maryland life since 1888. Robert and Linda Lewis are the fourth generation to own and operate Lewis Orchards Farm Market at the intersection of MD State Route 28 (Darnestown Road) and Peach Tree Road.”

They grow Peaches, plums and apricots in the summer, and pumpkins and apples in the fall.  Varieties of apples include:

Homestead Farm

Homestead Farm offer many different fruits for pick-your-own.  The season starts in mid-June with tart cherries, then continues in late June with blueberries.  Their peach season usually starts in early-July and goes into late-August and they grow both yellow and white peaches. Different varieties ripen at different times in the season.

Thornless blackberry season usually starts in early/mid-July and goes into mid/late August.  Apple picking from late-August into late- October.  Finally you can pick pumpkins from late September until Halloween.

They also have a petting zoo and sell local honey.

Baugher’s Orchard
